My biggest problem with Dubya

Ok, we were attacked, 911, horrible absolutely horrible and I as much as anybody screamed we need to find who did it, teach them a lesson. Osama is responsible for it. Great, let's get him! We're on it! We're getting him.

Wait, Iraq is a threat, they're evil. They will attack us. Sadam must go down, lets get him too. Ok good idea, not sure about 2 wars but lets get him.

Now then here we are years later.
The one responsible for attacking us, roaming around free, as far as we know. Nothing confirmed, but we're still after him.

The one who might attack us, we caught.

So here's my problem, the one who did attack us, we can't find. We're supposedly working hard to catch him, but we can't. You don't hear of us losing that many soldiers there, so obviously we either a)don't have many there or b)it's not that big of a mission c)it might not be the horrible place to operate we were told. Iraq, we supposedly took care of the mission, but we're still there, we're losing more good men and women daily, and are we even getting closer to having anything fixed.

To me, if someone punches you in the head, they should be a bigger target than someone who might punch you in the head. I mean technically everybody and anybody might punch you, but if someone has punched you, you know what they can do.

I don't think we really care to catch Bin Laden. I think it suits our purpose to not catch him, gives the government more lattitude and freedom to do other things. Now if we decide Syria is a problem, we report them having something, we scream remember 911, we scream they are supporting terrorists, and we would be there the next day attacking.

I'm sorry, I appreciate the terrain and such of Afghanistan and how difficult it is to get those people to talk or report things, but my God is it easier in Iraq? I mean you're talking the same kind of religious idealogy, the same problem with families and families of families, etc, but yet for all the horrible conditions that there are there, we can't find Bin Laden, we're working hard on it there but we don't lose soldiers. The math doesn't add up.

How can the most technologically advanced armed forces in the entire world not find one man? Someone's definately been beating around the bush, and its not congress because they didnt declare this a war, its a presidential war.

Now mind ya i'm ex military so you may think my views are a little askew. I don't agree with one thing since 9/11. I agree with the last post why can't he be found. I tell you why in my honest opinion.... he CAN be found. The higher ups will tell you we need a war, for morale, pride, what have you. Why fight and find a man like Osama, when you can take on the devil himself. LOL. I don't think we want to find Osama. If we do, what then? Don't read too much into this, i don't label myself a liberal or conservative. I'm just someone whos been there, and have a little different opinion.

whether we find osama and bring him to justice is irrelevant, we are in this war to take out terrorism in the middle east... which is something that is nearly impossible with the rise in number of insurgents in iraq and the fact that most of them are dressed as civilians which reminds me of the vietname war. Im one of the few people that are still kinda for the war in iraq, because i watched a video where an iraqi had beheaded and american, and i saw a video where an iraqi soldier beheaded an iraqi policeman with a pocket knife which extremely pi$$ed me off.

no pune intended. this is exactly what i said in a post less than 24 hours ago. osama was the one who killed thousands of people 4 years ago, how hard is it to find one man. when was the last time osama bin ladin was in the news? hmmmm lets see oh yeah it was around late october of 2004, right before the election. i am glad we were reminded right before election 2004 that osama bin ladin is a threat, yet since that time how often has his name been brought up?

like the analogy you said if someone punches you in the head you go after them, you don't go to the other end of the bar and fight someone else who has been givin you dirty looks all night.

Logic will tell anyone (even the Clinton administration) that a Saddam ruled Iraq was a time bomb waiting to explode and could have much more long term devastating affects to the middle east peace process than Bin Laden or anyone else. If it was only a "presidential" war then why did Congress vote to approve it? I remember Bush saying time and again when all this started that even if we overthrew their government quickly(which we did)and captured Saddam(which we did)...the aftermath of unrest could take years due to the struggle for power and insurgent resistance to a new democratic gov't. Nevertheless Americans remain impatient and want everything to be done in a week or they lose interest. The war against the gov't of Iraq has long been over. The military occupation and struggle against insurgents is continuing and will continue until Iraq has a new gov't in place just like we were told in the beginning. There is nothing new here. People will continue to compare it to vietnam which was a failure. Its true we may have bitten off more than we can chew over there due to the lack of social understanding we had before we went in...is it comparable to vietnam yet? Well on a much much smaller scale maybe because we lost 58,000 soldiers in Nam and we are not anywhere close to that pace in Iraq even if we are there for 20 more years. Whether or not the long term cost is worthwhile won't be known for quite sometime...if in the end it is successful then the landscape of the middle east including Iran could change forever and the world will no doubt be a better place.
